There have been many small studies suggesting that if you are a male with an abnormal sperm count, taking antioxidant supplements help improve abnormal sperm.
Though recently Dr Clare Boothroyd went to a large conference in Europe (ESHRE) at which a randomised controlled trial showed no benefit in taking antioxidants to improve abnormal sperm counts. However, the study only included a small sample size, which was not statistically large enough. More studies are required to provide the answer to the question “do antioxidants help male fertility?”
If you’re struggling with infertility and have an abnormal sperm count, there no suggestion of harm in taking antioxidants, but also potentially no benefit.
